FFor EYESONLY, the super blogger Giulia Hartz makes an exception. The young Italian works as a freelance illustrator and strategy designer in Berlin. Intelligent, funny and ironic, she plays with images and statements in her animations and products. And that goes down well! I was born and grew up in a tiny town on the shores of Lake Garda. After high school I moved to Milan dreaming of Sottsass and I studied Product Design at Politecnico di Milano. In 2016 I left pretty Italy and arrived to Berlin where I undertook a Master course in Strategic Design. During my Master, I started exploring visual thinking and illustration - turning out to be my greatest love. Design thinking is at the core of everything I design, from brand strategy to graphic design and illustration. As a visual storyteller, I like to create polar opposites in my illustrations and combine objects that belong to very different life phases. The result becomes some kind of illustrated meme where the innocence of childhood contrasts with the difficulties of being a grownup facing both internal fights and outside-world struggles. In my illustrations, I represent my own world, everyday life episodes, friends’ stories and personal experiences. Irony, pop culture and pastel colours mix in my work with the goal to create concise, humorous and positive visual stories. Pink is my favorite color, I have been having bangs for 19 years and take everything away from me but coffee.”
