VERMONT STUDIO CENTER featuring Wilhelm Neusser
November 17 - January 20, 2016

In his most recent work for EYES ONLY, U.S.-based painter Wilhelm Neusser refers to the landscape painting of the 19th century. In his painting Dämmerung (Twilight) the idyllic landscape - popular in the bourgeois homes of the period - reveals itself as an oppressive dawn. The peaceful world is breaking up, if not already wholly deteriorating; traditional dress is merely a costume and its wearer just about to leave the [painting's] surface. The opulent frame tries, like a powerful bracket, to hold the brittle world together. The present arrives on stage in the guise of the Biedermeier.

Wilhelm Neusser's installation Twilight (Dämmerung) is featured by the Vermont Studio Center and generously supported by WERNER MURRER RAHMEN, Munich.

The Vermont Studio Center is the largest international artists' and writers' residency program in the United States.
