“Solifugae Situations”, 2011
20 drawings on paper, each 24 x 16 cm
Justin Almquist, born 1976 in Minneapolis/Minnesota studied from 1994-1998 at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
In 2010 he graduated from the Academy of Art in Munich with Prof. Markus Oehlen. He lives and works in Munich, Germany.
In 2011 Almquist was an artist in residence at The Chinati Foundation in Texas, founded by Donald Judd. More than surprised by the resident “solifugae” that were all over his studio and living space, Almquist decided to capture these situations in drawings and deal with them that way. The Solifugaes are a genus living there between arachnids and scorpions that grow up to 7 cm long and are said to be harmless to humans.
